Sports aces to support La Manga Club charity week

Scottish football legend Gordon Strachan and former world top-10 tennis ace Nicolas Almagro will be among a host of stars and dignitaries who will don their disco dancing shoes at La Manga Club this summer to raise money for under-privileged children in South America.

Strachan has played a prominent role in helping the Spanish resort raise thousands of pounds for the Alda Foundation – which helps educate poor youngsters in Paraguay – in recent years, and joining him this year will be Almagro, La Manga Club’s new tennis academy director, as the venue stages its annual Alda Charity Week from July 29 to August 2.

The pair will join an audience of around 200 dignitaries, guests and residents taking part in a disco-themed summer party at La Manga Club’s Hotel Principe Felipe on Friday, August 2, featuring live music and entertainment, cocktails, sumptuous buffet, a charity auction and open bar.

The event will bring a memorable finale to a packed week of charity activities that begins  on Monday, July 29 with a fun tennis tournament for all the family at the resort’s 28-court tennis centre. Priced at €30 for adults and €15 for kids, tickets include tournament entry, food and refreshments.

Budding football stars of the future between the ages of 7 and 16 can show off the full array of their skills the following day at the Alda Football Tournament (costs €35 per child) before the action switches to the fairways on Wednesday, July 31 for a charity golf competition.

Costing €50 per person, golfers of all abilities being offered the chance to take part in an individual  Stableford  pairs competition over the resort’s award-winning South Course – venue for five Spanish Opens.
